Please share this personal message from us with your camper:
It is with the saddest of hearts and the deepest regrets that we share with you our decision to cancel our 2020 summer sessions. We know that this news will come as an enormous disappointment to our campers, staff, and Canyon Creek community. We have spent the better part of a year planning, preparing, and looking forward to our 20th summer together at the Creek.
We did not come to this decision lightly. As you all know, we have spent the past two months making contingency plans, meeting with health professionals, creatively re-imagining camp, and racking our brains for solutions on how to navigate camp programming in this new Covid world. We stayed positive and optimistic. We are creative, flexible, and can easily pivot when necessary. And while we have been waiting for guidance from the CDC, the ACA, and our local health departments, two things became clear – there is still too much uncertainty and risk surrounding this virus, and any form of camp would require an extreme amount of social distancing.
Social distancing is opposite of what defines Canyon Creek and would have not only rendered programming impossible, it would have made Canyon Creek unrecognizable to our campers. Trips to the lake, dancing and singing at campfire, hugs and high fives, meals in the dining hall, hanging with friends in a cabin, and birthday raves, are only some of the things that would have been eliminated.
As parents, you have put your trust in us for 19 years. We have already spoken with hundreds of families who have unwaveringly supported our mission and told us that we trust you and will be with you if you open your doors. We take that responsibility personally and as parents ourselves, our number one priority has always been to protect and ensure the health and safety of our campers, staff, and families. The uncertainty surrounding the Covid virus, the unreliability, and possible unavailability, of testing makes it impossible for us to guarantee everyone’s safety even if we do everything right. This was a heartbreaking decision for us as a family, for our business, and for our year-round staff, but it was an easy decision when it comes to protecting you.
Our biggest concern throughout this process has been the social and emotional well-being of our campers who need camp now more than ever. If you need a resource to help guide your camper through this disappointing news, we have found THIS VIDEO to be helpful.
We know you have many questions and we will be here to answer them all in the coming days and weeks. By the middle of next week, you will receive an email outlining the next steps including the various cancellation, rollover, and refund options available to you. This will answer a majority of your questions so look out for that on Wednesday. With over 1,000 campers registered for camp we ask for your patience as we work to answer all your questions and provide you with the best, clearest information moving forward.
We will miss ALL of you this summer, and we thank you for being a part of our Canyon Creek family. We live for summer and can’t wait to see you all in Summer 2021!
Peace, Love & Camp,
Daryl, Nathalie, Jeff, Nick, Donovan, Jenny, Jill, Jim, & the Entire Canyon Creek Family
